Welcome to “the Shoals”.  This is southern living at its best.  Southern hospitality is politely evident everywhere and everything is infused with a lifestyle of gentility from days gone by. 

There are four adjacent towns nestled in the hills of northwest Alabama on the banks of the Tennessee River that offer their citizens an enviable sense of safety and comfort.  The towns are intertwined and the residents here enjoy a quality of life and a variety of activities usually found only in much larger metropolitan areas.

From the houses on the bluffs overlooking the Tennessee River to the beautiful and historic homes in each city’s downtown area, life in “the Shoals” is easy, enjoyable and affordable.

There are so many events and activities here that there is always something for everyone.  The Times Daily, the local newspaper, publishes a daily calendar of events and a monthly calendar at the beginning of each month so that you can preplan your schedule to avoid missing out on anything you have an interest in attending.

A sample of some class activities are:  African dance exercise, belly dancing, floral design, growing herbs, cooking demonstrations, aerobics, fitness, Yoga, Pilates and labyrinth walks.

A sample of some fun events are:  Spring Gardens Open House for local gardens, Geo. Lindsey UNA film festival,  Frank Lloyd Wright museum house, First Friday downtown Florence,  Crappie and Bass tournaments, SHRM Spring Workshop at the Florence Golf and Country Club, Alabama Hall of Fame music festivals or summer concerts in the park, live Community Theater performances, W.C. Handy Jazz festival, Ivy Green—Helen Keller’s birthplace celebration, the annual north Alabama county fair and Trail of Tears ride.

Near by you can visit the Coon Dog Cemetery, NASA space camp for kids, the Natchez Trace historical Parkway.

We have plenty of department and specialty stores for your decorating or clothing needs.

The University of North Alabama and the Quad Cities have enough events to keep you active and interested each and every week.

Because of our location with the Tennessee River flowing right through the Quad Cities area anything associated with water recreational activities is readily available.

If you love golf we have many types of public and private facilities including the new Robert Trent Jones courses.

If you are a hunter we have great deer, turkey and small game hunting.

If fishing is your favorite past time then this is the place to be.

Did You Know?

Spring here is a joy to behold with early flowering bulbs and bushes to an abundance of flowering trees.  And autumn with its spectacular show of reds, oranges or yellows is breath taking.  Even winter can be beautiful because the individual trees of our woods create art in varying shades of grey. 

Summertime has a period of days when a tall iced beverage and relaxing in a shady spot is best.

Wintertime may have some periods of cold when curling up next to the fire is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

We have 3 hospitals and a doctor with a specialty for any medical situation that might be needed.

If you like helping others then any one of the charity or service organizations would welcome you.
